About

Mission Statement

Our team's goal is to learn and develop key skills this season. We took account of what we learned last year during our rookie season, and are making changes to be more competitive this year. In addition to furthering our own interests and passions, we want to give back to the community and inspire younger students to get interested in technology and innovation. We aim to accomplish this by implementing new systems within our brand.

Team Impact

This season we are planning to tackle more outreach events within our community. Our plan is to visit two middle and two elementary schools to inspire younger kids to get interested in STEM. We want to demonstrate that no matter what age or gender, with hard work and dedication, they can do anything they put their minds to. We are mentoring a younger robotics FLL team and 3 rookie FTC teams and will be presenting at a STEAM expo to broaden our reach.

What is Team Deja Vu?

Deja Vu is a 12-member (6 female, 6 male) team working towards designing a robot that is competitive, capable of winning regionals and qualifying for the national competition in Austin, Texas. Working together throughout last season, we developed a multitude of hard and soft skills that prepare us for life beyond school. We are proud representatives of the 49ers STEM Leadership Institute and sponsored by the Silicon Valley Education Foundation who support our quest for knowledge, the desire to grow our skillset, and share our knowledge with others.

Accomplishments

Last year Deja Vu entered back into the competition as a new rookie team of 9th graders with little experience in FTC. However, the team is a group of like-minded people working towards the shared goal of excelling in FIRST competitions to one day reach world. Unfortunately, last year we unable to accomplish the goal of making it to the world competition, but as rookies, we qualified for regionals with a first place alliance and inspire award to later make it in regionals as division finalist.

ORGANIZATION INFORMATION

What is FIRST?

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a non-profit organization that motivates students to innovate as they collaborate to complete robotics challenges and spread FIRST values.

"FIRST is more than robots. The robots are a vehicle for students to learn important life skills. Kids often come in not knowing what to expect - of the program nor of themselves. They leave, even after the first season, with a vision, with confidence, and with a sense that they can create their own future"   - Dean Kamen

FIRST values are at the center of team Deja Vu.

• Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.

• Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.

• Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.

• Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.

• Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.

• Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!
